Our Nursery
Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage. We offer funded places to children from the age of 2 years old providing a strong start to an exciting journey at Springfield Primary school.
Nursery 1 for Two Year Olds
Our recently opened Nursery room has been specifically designed for our two-year old Nursery children and provides a cozy, home from home experience for the youngest pupils in our school before they transition into their preschool year.
Nursery 2 for 3-4 year olds
Our pre- school Nursery caters for children from the age of three and up until they start their Reception year . Our EYFS teaching team work together to ensure transition from Nursery to school is smooth and seamless and that children are well prepared for each stage of their learning journey.
Children learn best when they feel happy, safe and secure. Our EYFS setting provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for children that promotes and develops their independence whilst reflecting their interests and building upon prior experiences. We have created a purposeful learning environment which promotes independence and we strive to achieve a balance between adult-led and child-initiated activities for our pupils. Adults in the setting scaffold learning through high quality interactions which support the development of effective language and communications skills that are vital for future educational success.
We provide a safe and secure setting in which children have access to a vibrant and stimulating indoor and outdoor area. In our Nursery classrooms we encourage children to develop their skills and independence through play-based learning.
The foundations we build in Nursery are crucial to each child developing a love of learning and being ready to start their first school year in Reception.
Our Nursery is open term time, and the Nursery start and finish times support the school day as many of our parents have siblings in both nursery and the main school.
We follow the Early Year Foundation Stage curriculum which consists of 7 areas of learning.
The three prime areas within EYFS are:
- Personal Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
The four specific areas within EYFS are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Our Reception program is designed to build on the strong start our pupils have in our Nursery, providing a nurturing environment where curiosity and confidence can flourish. With a focus on fostering independence, developing foundational skills, and encouraging social interactions, we ensure a smooth transition into more formal learning.
Children are encouraged to make connections in their learning through a creative topic-based approach and a central question that is asked on a half termly basis, linked to our Cornerstones curriculum. Children are able to engage with their learning through an imaginatively resourced free -flow learning environment that enables exploratory and child-initiated play both indoors and outdoors.
We are committed to providing a quality educational experience for all our pupils, in an atmosphere of security, respect and confidence. It is a key priority that our youngest pupils feel secure, happy and confident and that they develop into long life enthusiastic and independent learners. For some children in our EYFS setting, this will be their first experience of separating from their main care giver. Our main aim is for your child to be happy and confident in the time they spend apart from you. This provides them with good foundations for starting

Springfield’s Early Years Vision:
In the Early Years at Springfield Primary School, we believe in providing children from age two to five years with a safe and engaging environment where they have an opportunity to grow, learn and flourish in all areas of the Foundation Stage. This builds on each individual's wants, needs and interests and helps them achieve targeted next steps. These small, manageable targets are achieved in a context that is relevant to them as unique individuals who learn in different ways and at different rates. Learning should be fun and we strongly believe in providing quality, meaningful and enriched opportunities across the provision. We value the important role of both the indoor and outdoor environments in developing children’s thinking and resilience skills as well as meeting all Characteristics of Effective Learning. We are committed to giving our children the best possible start to their school life through teaching them the skills and knowledge which will ensure that they become successful, confident, lifelong learners.
