Home-learning
At Springfield, we feel children learn best through positive home school partnership. Parents and the wider community play an active role in all aspects of pupil development. The below suggests how you can best support your child at home.
Home Learning at Springfield Primary School – Year 1
Reading: Children should read for at least 15 minutes on each occasion they read. Discussing with your child what they have read is really important in developing their reading ability. KS1 parents are expected to sign this once their child has read. All reading diaries should be handed in every day at school. Children will be entered into a reading raffle if they have read five times in one week.
Mathletics: Children will be set Mathletics home learning on alternative weeks to English/Phonics activities. Children will have the option of using the computing suite at lunchtime or attend Friday’s home learning club if they do not have access to a computer at home. Home learning set on Mathletics will link to the learning your child has completed in class that week.
English/ Phonics: Children will receive either an English or phonics based activity on alternative weeks. Phonics based activities will be linked to the Read, Write, Inc sounds learnt in class that week. English home learning set will link to learning your child has completed in class that week.
Topic: Children will receive optional activities which are linked to our topic and they include a range of activities from art and design, cooking, researching, building, writing and maths. As we recognise how time consuming some of these activities can be, we have specified that this home learning is optional.
